Ms. Gail Folwell, the 2014 Sport Artist of the Year (Sculptor) and a resident of Boulder, Colo., uses her appreciation of sports and anatomy to sculpt various athletes. Throughout her art, she expresses the energy of the athletes and their sport with abstracted figurative forms frozen in mid-motion.
The “Sport Movies & Tv 2014 – 32nd Milano International FICTS Fest”, the worldwide Final of 16 Festivals in the 5 Continents of the “World FICTS Challenge,” will be held in Milano, Italy, from 3-8 December. The event, organized by the Fédération Internationale Cinéma Télévision Sportifs (FICTS) and recognized by the International Olympic Committee, is articulated in 150 Projections, seven Meeting, two Workshops, four Exhibitions, four Side Events, two Press Conferences, 30 Awards of international guests. - The 3rd edition of the seminar ‘Paths to Success: Inspiring Future Leaders in Sport’ will be hosted by the German Olympic Sports Confederation and the International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education from 14-16 November 2014 in Berlin, Germany.
- The Sports Movies and TV 2014 – 32nd Milano International FICTS fest will be held 3-8 December 2014, in Milano, Italy.
- The 2014 Sport Tourism Conference will be held from 10-12 December 2014, Coimbra, Portugal.
- The 2016 Summer Olympic Games will be held from 5-21 August 2016, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The Academy’s 30th Annual Awards of Sport Ceremony was held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 6, 2014, in honor of the 2014 Sport Artists of the Year, Ms. Miriam Cabello (Painter) (right) and Ms. Gail Folwell (Sculptor) (middle). In addition, the Academy honored Dr. Bonnie Tiell (left) as the 2014 Alumna of the Year.
Following the award presentations, Folwell unveiled her sculpture, Pas de Deux, which features an exchange between two hockey players. Cabello, unveiled her piece entitled, Ron Richards I , which she completed in 2011 as a portion of her current “White Rope” series, featuring Aboriginal boxing legends. Both exquisite pieces are now housed in the American Sport Art Museum and Archives in Daphne, Ala.

Playing under the first-ever team rankings by the inaugural College Football Playoff Committee, #3 ranked Auburn faced #4 ranked Ole Miss in cool blustery weather in Oxford, Mississippi, Saturday and the game proved to be a classic 35-31 victory for the Auburn Tigers in the tradition of the rugged SEC West Division.
The Academy is excited to announce the unveiling of their newest sculpture by the 2009 Sport Artist of the Year and local “found object” artist, Bruce Larsen. The latest addition to the Sport Sculpture Park will be unveiled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, November 7, 2014, on the Academy’s campus in Daphne, Ala.
