General Description

The Director of Communications will be responsible for pro-active planning and implementation of all aspects of the Academy’s communications and publications. He or she is responsible for creating new ways to promote the United States Sports Academy, the American Sport Art Museum and Archives (ASAMA) and its associated programs. The Director will also be responsible to develop and deploy communication strategies to increase enrollment at the Academy, membership in ASAMA and participation in both organizations.  The Director is responsible for developing public relations that complement the advertising campaigns and support the marketing efforts of the Academy and for organizing and implementing any publicity efforts that are assigned by the President and CEO or his designee.

 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required (graduate degree preferred) in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Promotions or related field.  Appropriate degree is highly desirable, although suitable experience may substitute for some or all education.  A background in Higher Education and/or Sports and Public Speaking desired.  Should be an experienced communications professional with demonstrated success as a creative leader/manager, and strategist. Excellent public relations skills and an entrepreneurial spirit are vital for this position. Knowledge of and interest in sport are essential. Practical experience in establishing speakers’ bureaus and collaborating with community and national projects is desired. Must be able to plan and stage special events, have experience working with the media, possess practical computer knowledge and proficiency in using a variety of MS/Windows compatible computer applications and software such as desk-top publishing and standard desktop suite. The qualified individual should possess the skills to prepare publication materials that are camera ready and have the ability to create presentations in a variety of media.

 

Must possess the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines and should be able to initiate projects; have ability to write and edit press releases; possess creativity and the ability to communicate effectively with strong written and oral communication skills.

Dean of Student Services

The United States Sports Academy is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as the Dean of Student Services.  The Dean of Student Services is a member of the President’s Cabinet and is responsible for the oversight and general administration of admissions, financial aid, registrar, student activities and student information systems.

Master’s degree in higher education administration or sports related field required, terminal degree preferred.  Previous admissions and student services experience in an educational setting required, preferably at the graduate level. Knowledge of institutional effectiveness best practices and accrediting and regulatory requirements is required. Experience in managing online programs. Strong marketing, computer  and communications necessary with a minimum of seven (7) years of administrative and supervisory oversight experience at the post-secondary level recommended.

Chair of Sports Exercise Science

The Departmental Chair will provide instruction in both residential and online settings, undertake administrative activities in the Division of Academic Affairs; provide academic, portfolio, and mentorship advising to students and assist with curricular development and course writing for the discipline. The faculty member will also supervise the activities in the Human Performance Laboratory, fitness facilities, and Sports Medicine Lab.  In addition, the faculty member will also seek out grant opportunities and undertake such research and writing as needed for professional development, and participate in service activities as requested.
Qualifications: An earned doctorate in Exercise Science (or a related discipline) with at least five years teaching and supervisory academic experience in higher education and evidence of scholarly production are required. Experience in administering academic programs in a non-traditional setting and via asynchronous, on-line delivery is required and the candidate must possess demonstrable and developed computer skills.
