AAICU Offers Scholarships to United States Sports Academy Students

The Alabama Association of Independent Colleges & Universities (AAICU) awarded scholarship money to the Academy to distribute among five deserving students. The scholarship is a gift to Academy students who are Alabama residents.

Mr. Ben Billman, a Graduate Teaching Assistant and doctoral student at the United States Sports Academy, was nominated by Academy faculty as the Academy’s AAICU Ambassador. This is the third year that AAICU has held an Ambassador program. Responsibilities include legislation sessions and activities and tasks for ambassadors in the months preceding the session dates. Billman was awarded an $850 scholarship along with the title.

Mr. Cory Schierberl, also a Graduate Teaching Assistant and doctoral student, received $850 from the AAICU Scholarship fund and a portion of the Ambassador Program Scholarship.

Ms. Yolanda Arrowood of Gulf Shores, Al is a student in the Academy’s Bachelor of sports management program. Ultimately her goal is to earn a doctorate of Physical Therapy. She received $1,000 from the AAICU Scholarship fund.

Ms. Camilla Milton of Robertsdale, Al received the Daniel Foundation Scholarship and the AAICU scholarship for $1,700. Milton is in the Bachelor of sports coaching program.

Mr. Alexander Dillard of Bessemer, Al was nominated as a Vulcan Scholar and was awarded $1,000 that was endowed by Vulcan Materials. He also received $500 from the AAICU Scholarship fund. He is studying to earn his Bachelor degree in sports coaching.

Over the past ten years, AAICU raised and distributed more than $2.2 million dollars for scholarships to students attending member schools. In addition, in 2005 alone AAICU member schools provided more than $75 million dollars in direct student aid to their students.

The United States Sports Academy is an independent, non-profit, accredited, special mission Sports University created to serve the nation and world with programs in instruction, research, and service.
