Dr. Rosandich presented the Mayor at the Thursday, Sept. 29 reception a Distinguished Service Award (DSA) medal engraved to him in appreciation of all of the things that he has done for the Academy during his tenure.

“It is simply in recognition of the nearly 2,000 ‘Keys to the City of Daphne’ that he has given to our various Awards of Sport honorees over the years,” Dr. Rosandich said. “We thank the Mayor very much for all he has done for the Academy. I am truly disappointed with his resignation but to each his own. We at the Academy are genuinely going to miss him.”

During the event, Small introduced his family, including his wife, Karen, and four children. He attributed his resignation to the need to spend more time with his family and to run his business.

“These employees you see here today are very important to the city and very important to me for all the support they’ve given me,” Small said. “We’ve had some good times and done a lot of things we had never been able to do before. I’ll miss it and miss the people. But I’ll be around, I’ll just be down the street.”
