Dr. Susan Blackwood of the San Antonio Sports Foundation has been appointed to the United States Sports Academy’s Board of Trustees.
Dr. Blackwood has been executive director of the San Antonio Sports Foundation since 1996. As executive director she is responsible for attracting major sporting events to San Antonio. During her tenure San Antonio has hosted three National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Final Fours and will host the women’s Final Four next month. She also serves as the foundation’s primary fundraiser and grant solicitor, in addition to serving as a catalyst for developing sports and fitness programs for people of all ages.
Since 1997, Dr. Blackwood has also served as an adjunct professor at Incarnate Word University in San Antonio, specializing in the topics of leadership and understanding in sports organizations.
Before moving to the San Antonio Sports Foundation, Dr. Blackwood was associate director of athletics at the University of Texas at Austin from 1990 to 1994; assistant commissioner of the Southwest Athletic Conference from 1988 to 1990; and spent seven years as the assistant athletics director of the University Interscholastic League.
Dr. Blackwood earned her bachelor’s in physical science from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln in 1970, where she also earned her master’s (1973) and doctorate (1984).
