A statue commemorating one of college football’s most celebrated rivalries, the Iron Bowl, will be dedicated by a coach who has won the annual clash between the University of Alabama and Auburn University the last two years. And he has a couple of national championship rings as well.

Nick Saban, the head coach of the 2009 Bowl Championship Series (BCS) National Champion Alabama Crimson Tide football team, will appear on the United States Sports Academy’s campus in Daphne, Alabama at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 18 to dedicate the Academy’s Iron Bowl Statue, a creation of Fairhope artist Bruce Larsen.

Alabama won the national title during Saban’s third year as head coach, giving the 16-year veteran head coach his second BCS Championship, his first being in 2003 at Louisiana State University.
