Jay HammesDr. Thomas P. Rosandich, Academy President and CEO (left), and Ms. Betsy Smith, the Academy’s Director of Academic Administration and Continuing Education (right), met with Mr. Jay Hammes, an Academy alumnus and the Founding President of Safe Sport Zone, on the Academy’s campus on Monday, 9 July 2012.

Mr. Hammes, who earned a master’s degree in sports management from the Academy in 1990, visited the Academy to discuss ways and means that the institution could provide Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for Safe Sport Zone participants. The mission of Safe Sport Zone is to provide a safer environment for after-school events. Mr. Hammes’ years of experience in athletic administration and his work with the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) in its national leadership training program, has provided him with the opportunity to serve as a resource on event security.

Through proud supporters of Safe Sport Zone, Mr. Hammes travels nationwide sharing “best practices” with schools to help them better manage their event security operations. He is considered to be one of the leading experts in this arena. Mr. Hammes is also an elected Board Trustee in Wind Point, WI, where he is in charge of police, fire, and safety.
