National Faculty Member to Teach Course in Bahrain

Dr. Peter Mathiesen

United States Sports Academy Faculty Member Dr. Peter Mathiesen will teach a course for Bahrain’s General Organization for Youth and Sports (GOYS) in Sports Administration, the first course in the International Certificate in Sports Management (ICSM) program, from 21-25 February.

The origins of the Academy’s international programs began in Bahrain in 1977. Academy instructors teach sports education courses in Bahrain designed to broaden student knowledge in sports-related areas of business, administration, personnel management, marketing, public relations and facility management/program development.

Dr. Mathiesen is from Chico, CA, and serves as a Professor of Physical Education at California State University, where he teaches sports psychology, sports sociology and athletic administration. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Humboldt State University, a master’s from San Jose State University, and an Ed.D from the University of Sarasota. He has taught sports management programs in a number of foreign countries for the Academy.

Dr. Mathiesen has served as the head basketball coach of the Geelong Cats in the National Basketball League in Australia and was head coach of the basketball programs at Chico State, College of the Redwoods, South Fork High School and Canden High School. He has written more than 20 published articles on basketball and has organized and directed three summer basketball camps for over 17 years. Dr. Mathiesen is ranked in the top 30 for the number of coaching victories for National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II head coaches.
