The 2009 Sport Artist of the Year, Bruce Larsen, released the first segment of his newest sculpture depicting cycling that will be featured as part of the Academy’s Sports Sculpture Park. The piece, depicting a Paralympian, is the first of three or four that will compose the 24-foot sculpture.

The unveiling, which will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, 3 April 2014, will be open free to the public.

The theme for the new sculpture was selected in part by the Academy’s role as a transition point in the upcoming 263-mile Gulf Coast Interstate Relay. The Relay, which includes runners and cyclists, will begin in New Orleans, La., on Friday, 4 April 2014, and will conclude in Pensacola, Fla., on Sunday, 6 April 2014.
