Academy President and CEO Dr. Thomas P. Rosandich has been chosen by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to serve as a member of the International Jury for the Sport and Art Contest on June 11 in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Brandon Spradley, an Academy residential doctoral student and teaching assistant, and Dr. Jordan Moon, the Academy’s Department Head of Sports Fitness and Health, had their Phase 1 clinical trial scientific paper on MusclePharm’s pre-workout supplement, Assault, published in the peer-reviewed journal, Nutrition and Metabolism.
Dr. Dexter J. Davis, an Academy non-residential faculty member and assistant professor of sport management at Niagara University, recently brought about a dozen of his college students on a tour of the Academy’s Daphne, Ala., campus.
Robert C. Campbell III, the chairman of the Academy’s Board of Trustees and an attorney with the Mobile law firm Campbell, Duke and Campbell, was selected to join the Alabama Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (AAICU) Board of Trustees.
Dr. Judith Young, who is on the Academy’s Board of Visitors and is vice president of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD), announced that the organization has rescheduled its convention for April 25-28 in Chicago.
Opie Otterstad, the Academy’s 2006 Sport Artist of the Year, has been commissioned by the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) to paint portraits of each college basketball national championship team’s coach since 1939. His first painting was of North Carolina Tar Heels coach Dean Smith, who guided his team to two titles.
Cristóbal Gabarrón, the Academy’s 1992 Sport Artist of the Year, is collaborating with the Washington Ballet on the “Day of the Dead (El Día de los Muertos).” The event will feature hundreds of Gabarrón’s sculptures.
