Academy President and CEO Dr. Thomas P. Rosandich attended meetings at the 8th edition of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) World Conference on Sport, Culture and Education Nov. 25-27 in Amsterdam. The Academy is working with the IOC to develop a new Olympic Values Education Program (OVEP) that could be delivered online across the world.

Dr. Marion “Will” Evans, the Academy’s Dean of Academic Affairs, and Brandon Spradley, an Academy doctoral teaching assistant, attended the Alabama Association of Independent Colleges and Universities’ (AAICU) Ambassadors Program regional luncheon held at Spring Hill College Jan. 8 in Mobile, Ala.

Betsy Smith, Director of Academic Administration and Continuing Education, traveled with a team of 14 instructors who spent two weeks teaching in the Academy’s new pilot program. It is retraining thousands of Malaysia’s physical education teachers. The group took part in a “surge” from Dec. 1 to Dec. 9 and taught fitness and facilities management courses that wrapped up the initial six-month program.

Dr. William Steffen, the Academy’s chair of Sports Coaching, attended the National Soccer Coaches Association of America annual convention, the single largest gathering of soccer coaches in the world, Jan. 17 in Indianapolis. He presented with Tony DiCicco, former U.S. Women’s National Team soccer coach, and discussed flak play for the goalkeeper.

Erin Boles, who serves as an Admissions Counselor, has been appointed the Coordinator of Alumni Affairs. By appointing Boles to this new position, the Academy hopes to strengthen communications within the Alumni Association, which features one of the largest networks in the sports profession.

Academy National Faculty members Dr. Dale Reeves and Dr. Tim DeVinney will travel January 18-26 to Bangkok, Thailand, to teach courses in conjunction with the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT). Dr. Reeves is teaching a course in Sports Coaching Methodology, and Dr. DeVinney is teaching a course in Olympic Culture and Education.

Jordan Moon, an Academy Distance Learning Faculty member, had two articles published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition. One article is “Body composition in athletes and sports nutrition: an examination” and the other is “Tracking fat-free mass changes in elderly men and women using.”

Evan Weiner, the Academy’s 2010 Ronald Reagan Media Award winner, has published an e-book on the history of the National Football League (NFL) that’s titled, “America’s Passion: How a Coal Miner’s Game Became the NFL in the 20th Century.”
