Academy President and CEO Dr. Thomas P. Rosandich attended the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Culture and Olympic Education Commission meetings from June 29-July 1 in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The Academy and Alabama Southern signed an agreement June 21 to partner to offer a bachelor's in Sports Management - one of the Academy's fastest growing programs. Dr. Arthur Ogden, chair of Sports Management at the Academy, signed a 2+2 articulation agreement with Alabama Southern Community College officials that offers students a way to seamlessly earn their bachelor’s in Sports Management from the Academy.

Dr. Conrad Woolsey, chair of Sports Studies at the Academy, is slated to be a featured speaker at the Gregg Williams Foundation fundraiser in Kansas City to support local high school athletic programs. Williams was a longtime National Football League (NFL) assistant coach and defensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints.

Mike Spino, an Academy Distance Learning Faculty member, visited the university’s campus along with Ambassador Tunde Adetunji, who made a presentation about his efforts to help promote economic development in Africa through sports and culture.

Dr. Pete Mathiesen, an Academy national faculty member, will travel to Thailand from July 26-Aug.  3 to teach a course in Sports Psychology, in cooperation with the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) for the Academy’s International Certification in Sports Coaching (ICSC) program.

Dr. Reggie Overton, an Academy national faculty member, will travel to Thailand from July 26-Aug. 3 to teach a course in Public Relations in Sports, in cooperation with the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) for the Academy’s International Certification in Sports Management (ICSM) program.

Nancy Raia, the United States Sports Academy Art Committee chairwoman and Community Arts and Outreach Director at the Eastern Shore Art Center, received a 2013 Gulf Guardian Award in the Partnership Category for their Squeaky Sneakers Program, which helped students explore Weeks Bay Reserve and learn about the environment through the experience and innovative forms of artistic expression.

Greek artist Mina Papatheodorou-Valyraki, the United States Sports Academy’s 2002 Sport Artist of the Year, was recently awarded “Guirlande d’Honneur,” the highest honor of the Fédération Internationale Cinéma Télévision Sportifs (FICTS). She received the honor for her contributions to sports art from FICTS President Dr. Franco Ascani.

Olympic Legacies: International Conference – The event, themed “Impacts of Mega-Events on Cities,” will be held Sept. 4-6 at the University of East London.

The Shaolin Temple Cultural Festival – Sept. 8-15 in Los Angeles, Calif.
