United States Sports Academy Doctoral students Mr. Bob Clarkson and Mr. Todd Pitts, both faculty at Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Michigan, lead a study abroad group to Europe each summer. This year they visited the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) headquarters in Zurich Switzerland on 12 May, just one week prior to the 14 arrests and the formal corruption allegations. The group met with the Public Affairs Manager of FIFA and discussed World Cup site selection, FIFA budgets, strategic planning, marketing, governance, and the corruption allegations.

Dr. Arthur Ogden, Academy Chair of Sports Management, has recently chimed in on the FIFA corruption allegations. His article, “FIFA Tower of Babel is Crumbling Under the Weight of its Own Pride and Greed,” is available on the Academy blog, The Sport Digest. A segment on Sports Talk, “The FIFA Circus,”was also dedicated to the issue.
