Chapter 33 Post 9/11 GI Bill®

Chapter 33 Post 9-11 GI Bill® provides educational benefits to eligible veterans that have served at least 90 days of aggregate service on or after 9/11/01. If eligible, veterans will have up to 15 years following release from active duty to utilize the 36 months of educational benefit. For questions concerning eligibility, please contact Veterans Affairs.

The percentage veterans are eligible for depends on their active duty service on or after 9/11/01:

  • 90 days – 40%

  • 6 months but less than 12 months – 50%

  • 12 months but less than 18 months – 60%

  • 24 months but less than 30 months – 80%

  • 30 months but less than 36 months – 90%

  • 36 months – 100%

The Veterans Affairs office will determine the percentage the veteran is eligible to receive.

Paperwork Needed for Enrollment:

All students using Chapter 33 benefits will need to submit a Certificate of Eligibility indicating their eligibility. Veterans will also need to submit a copy of the 22-1995 (Request for Change of Program or Place of Training) if they have used their benefits.

Veterans may apply for benefits online through VONAPP (Veterans On Line Application). Please note that this paperwork must be provided by the Veteran to the VA office and USSA.  The Academy will not forward paperwork to the VA office.

Yellow Ribbon Program GI Enhancement Program:

The Academy is a voluntary member of the Yellow Ribbon Program.

Chapter 33 Post 9-11 Transfer of Benefits

Servicemembers enrolled in the Post 9-11 GI Bill® program may be able to transfer unused educational benefits to their spouses or children. In order to transfer the benefit, the servicemember will need to complete the Transferability Application. For questions concerning eligibility, please contact Veterans Affairs.
