Chapter 35 Survivors & Dependents Assistance

Dependents’ Educational Assistance provides education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of certain veterans. The program offers up to 45 months of education benefits. For questions concerning eligibility, please contact Veterans Affairs.

Paperwork Needed for Enrollment:

Students must submit a copy of the 22-5490 (Application for Education Benefits) or 22-5495 (Request for Change of Program or Place of Training); a DD-214 is not required.

Veterans may apply for benefits online through VONAPP (Veterans On Line Application). Please note that this paperwork must be provided by the veteran to the VA office and the Academy.  USSA will not forward paperwork to the VA office.

Payment Options:

Students are required to pay out of pocket in order to get started with their courses.

Chp. 35 Benefit Checklist

□ Go online to VONAPP
□ Fill out either a 22-5490 or 22-5495 form
□ Make sure paperwork goes to the VA Office & USSA
□ Pay USSA out of pocket for courses & receive reimbursment from the government
