Completing a doctoral dissertation can be a daunting task for even the most accomplished students. The United States Sports Academy is committed to student success in all aspects of their graduate work, with a focus on academic and professional skill building, intellectual engagement, and an understanding of the graduate school experience.

Because of its commitment to student success, the Academy is offering its doctoral candidates the inaugural Dissertation Writing Intensive Workshop, hosted by the Robert Block Library on 13-15 November, 2019, on the institution’s campus in Daphne, Ala.

The seminar is open to students at any stage of their dissertation preparations.

The Dissertation Writing Intensive Workshop will be delivered collaboratively by full time faculty and staff. There will be classroom based activities about writing, researching, formatting, the IRB process, and more, combined with hands-on sessions, round tables, and one on one sessions with faculty members.

Each session will provide practical advice on how to tackle the different stages of your dissertation while offering strategies to help you understand writing a long-term project. While this information is offered during your degree program and is spread across multiple courses, we believe this condensed and focused format may provide insight, inspiration for topic development, exposure to new methodologies, and time for planning and drafting.

Specific objectives are to:

  • Give an overview of the dissertation as a form and its creation process, emphasizing the core elements and their construction;
  • Help students understand the implicit norms, ideas, and patterns or codes of behavior often learned through informal interactions within the academy but are embedded in the dissertation process;
  • Afford students the chance to meet, learn from, and develop relationships with fellow colleagues in the field.

The registration fee is $500.00 that covers lunches, materials, and certificate for this three-day event. Participants are required to fund their own travel and lodging to attend the workshop. The deadline for registration is November 1, 2019.
