The 1986 Sport Artist of the Year and renowned American illustrator, Bart Forbes, is admired worldwide for his sports illustrations and landscapes. Forbes was recently one of 23 commissioned to create pieces for the Art Collection at Levi Stadium, the new home of San Francisco 49ers.
Forbes work has been featured on more than 20 different commemorative stamps for the United States Postage Service including the 1988 commemorative Olympic Game series, Lou Gehrig, Jesse Owens and the “America is Beautiful” series.
His interest in sport is expressed through decades of sport art including the 35 pieces housed in the American Sport Art Museum and Archives (ASAMA) in Daphne, Ala.
In February 2011, a Forever Stamp featuring an original watercolor by Forbes was issued to celebrate the centennial of former President Ronald Reagan’s birthday. The painting featured on the stamp is currently held in the Ronald Reagan Library in Simi Valley, Calif.
In addition to numerous paintings that are currently hanging in professional sport club houses, Forbes has created themed paintings for prestigious competitions such as the Kentucky Derby, the Boston Marathon, the Indianapolis 500 and the Professional Golf Association Tour.
He has also worked for well-known corporations such as Pepsi-Cola, Exxon, NBC and ESPN. In addition to these accomplishments, Forbes created pieces of official art for the U.S. Olympic Committee for both the Barcelona and Atlanta Games.
Throughout his career, he has been featured in famous publications such as Sports Illustrated, Time, Redbook and Boy’s Life. Forbes has also completed 20 oil paintings for the Major League baseball team, the Atlanta Braves.
