Kehres retired as the Mount Union football coach in 2013 with a record of 332-24-3 and the highest ever college football winning percentage of .929. He continues to serve the NCAA Division III school as the institution’s Director of Athletics.
During his 27 seasons as the Purple Raiders coach, Kehres led his teams to 11 national titles (1993, 1996–1998, 2000–2002, 2005–2006, 2008, 2012). In addition to the national titles, his teams captured 23 conference titles and recorded 21 unbeaten regular seasons.
The Distinguished Service Award (DSA) is given annually to those individuals who have made outstanding contributions to national or international sport through education, research, or service.
The DSA is separate from the Academy’s Awards of Sport and each recipient also receives the coveted Order of the Eagle Exemplar for their achievements. Each nominee must possess an extensive background in sport, which means that the individual must have had significant dealings in instruction, research, or service in sport for more than ten years.
