Dr. Stan Drawdy

The United States Sports Academy is mourning the loss of Dr. Stan Drawdy, who served the institution as a member of its distance learning faculty for two decades. Drawdy, 68, passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 after a brief illness.

Drawdy was well respected by his peers and loved by his students, as evidenced by this comment from one of his students in their course exit survey.

“The best course I had at the Academy was Coaching American football because Dr. Stanley Drawdy was a wonderful instructor and football is a sport I was eager to learn more about.”

In addition to his service to the Academy as a distance learning faculty member, Drawdy also taught abroad for the institution. Drawdy worked as an instructor for the Academy’s International Certification in Sports Management (ICSM) program in Thailand, Malaysia, and Bahrain.

For more than 30 years, Drawdy worked as an administrator, teacher, and football coach in South Carolina where he served on many athletic committees and boards including the South Carolina Football Coaches Association, South Carolina Athletic Administrators Association, South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association, and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. He also had the honor of coaching in both the 1999 North-South All-Star game and the 2004 Shrine Bowl.

Drawdy was born in Fairfield, Calif., on May 5, 1954. He was the son of Harvey Eugene Drawdy and Merle Louise Camp Drawdy. After graduating from Francis Marion University he became a science teacher and coach at St. Johns High School. He then moved to Hannah-Pamplico High School where he worked in many positions including athletic director, coach, teacher and assistant principal. It was during this time that he earned his Doctorate from Nova Southeastern University. He was also a professor for the United States Sports Academy and owner of Drawdy Properties. Dr. Drawdy was an accomplished author having published two books and was currently working on his third. He was a talented musician/song writer and was a member of a blue grass band named “Special Breed”. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of Pamplico First Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to the athletic department of Hannah- Pamplico High School, 2055 S Pamplico Highway, 29583.
