We Are the Eagles: A Message from Dr. Steve Condon

This is my first written communication as the third president of the Academy. I am preceded in leadership by Dr. Thomas P. Rosandich (TPR), our founder, and his son Dr. Thomas J. Rosandich (Dr. T.J.) from 1972 to 2022. The Rosandich family led 50 years of distinctive leadership and distinguished service marked by a meteoric rise to international prominence as the preeminent sports university in the world. With regional (SACSCOC) and the prestigious business school (ACBSP) accreditations, our university continues to be the Gold Standard for those in the profession of sports and athletics. Olympic Swimmer Noemi Zaharia Collects USSA Doctoral Degree at Commencement

Noemi Zaharia is an Olympic medalist, world Universiade champion, successful former collegiate swimming coach and a professor at the University of Alabama-Huntsville. She now has another title: Doctor. Zaharia’s impressive swimming record includes two medals in swimming at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea, winning silver in the 400 meter mixed and bronze in the 200 meter mixed for Romania. She also won five gold medals, two bronze medals and MVP honors in swimming at the 1987 Summer Universiade in Yugoslavia. She also competed in the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. In May, she walked across the stage and collected her Doctor of Education degree in sports management at USSA's commencement program. Advisory Board Appointed for USSA’s School of Sport Business

The United States Sports Academy is strengthening its institutional and academic support with the development of the newly appointed advisory board for the School of Sport Business. The United States Sports Academy, also known as America’s Sports University, has been the gold standard for sport education for over 50 years. The university has new and exciting initiatives coming this year, such as launching its first intercollegiate sports programs. Meet Dr. Monique Carroll, USSA’s 2023 Alumna of the Year

Occupation: Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Chicago State University USSA Degree: M.S.S. Sports Management Hometown: New Boston, Texas As Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Chicago State University, Dr. Monique Carroll oversees 15 NCAA Division 1 sports programs and serves as a member of the President's Cabinet. She joined CSU in September 2022 after working two years as athletic director at Huston-Tillotson University. USSA Introducing Undergraduate Minors for First-Time Students Enrolling for Fall 2023

The United States Sports Academy is expanding its undergraduate offerings with the introduction of new minors available to first-time students enrolling for the Fall 2023 semester. The minors will cover a diverse range of study including business administration, analytics in sports, nutritional science, sports media and communication, marketing, women’s studies in sports, and project management. Each of the new minors is twelve credit hours and will be integrated into the student’s curriculum as electives. USSA Hires Peter Fuller for New Soccer Teams, Dave Omtvedt to Start Beach Volleyball on Campus

The United States Sports Academy is launching its first intercollegiate sports programs in its 50-year history, beginning with men’s and women’s soccer and beach volleyball in the fall of 2023. The university has hired two-time NAIA national championship coach Peter Fuller to recruit and coach its first men’s and women’s soccer teams. With more than 300 career wins under his belt, Fuller is one of the winningest coaches in NAIA soccer history and won national championships at both Belhaven University and the University of Mobile. Chicago State Athletics Director Dr. Monique Carroll Named 2023 USSA Alumna of the Year

An experienced collegiate athletics administrator with more than a decade of work and upward movement on her resume, Dr. Monique Carroll is the United States Sports Academy’s 2023 Alumna of the Year. A native of New Boston, Texas, Carroll is the director of intercollegiate athletics at Chicago State University, where she oversees 15 NCAA Division I sports programs and serves as a member of the President’s Cabinet.  She joined the Cougars on September 1, 2022 after serving as the athletic director at Huston-Tillotson University since March 2020. USSA Sending Dr. Bonnie Tiell to Teach Sport Governance Seminar in Bahrain

United States Sports Academy alumna and faculty member Dr. Bonnie Tiell is set to teach a one-week sport governance seminar in the Kingdom of Bahrain as part of that nation’s Bahrain Sport Summit in February. The seminar is meant to provide students in Bahrain with an opportunity to critically evaluate, develop, and practice the skills of governance, marketing, and strategy required in the sports industry. The seminar pulls educational content from three USSA graduate-level courses in sports marketing, sport organization governance, and strategic management. Student of the Month: Anthony Fletcher

The United States Sports Academy’s January Student of the Month is Anthony Fletcher of Santa Barbara, Calif. Fletcher is member of the United States Air Force Air Force, with seven deployments as an Airborne Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance operator. He is also an Academy student seeking his bachelor’s degree in sports strength and conditioning and hopes to use his education to propel his goals to work as CSCS and Tactical Fitness and Conditioning Specialist or continue his education and become a Doctor of Physical Therapy after retiring from the military. Fletcher found out about the academy while researching exercise related training opportunities and discovered a bachelor's program that met all of his interests. Alumnus Dr. Marty Durden Pens Book on ‘Servant Leadership’ Coaching Philosophy

Throughout his nearly five decade career in athletic leadership, Dr. Marty Durden has written extensively about the “servant-leader” model of sports coaching. Recently, Durden released his new book, “More than Winning: The Servant-Leader Coach in Contemporary Society” that is available for purchase on Amazon. Dr. Fred Cromartie Named Interim VP for Academic Affairs

Longtime faculty member and alumnus Dr. Fred Cromartie has been named interim Vice President of Academic Affairs at the United States Sports Academy. Cromartie is also an Academy alumnus, having earned his Doctor of Education and Master of Sports Science degrees here.
