DAPHNE, Ala. – Sports fans, mark your calendar to tune in at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday for the next edition of the United States Sports Academy’s Sports Talk program.

This week’s show is a special edition covering the Dollar General Bowl held at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala., just a few miles from the Academy campus.  Sports Talk moderator Dr. Stephen Butler will be joined by Dr. Bret Simmermacher, Academy chair of sports coaching, and Sara Weber, doctoral teaching assistant, in sharing game-week experiences with viewers.  The setting for the show is the historic U.S.S. Alabama battleship on Mobile Bay.

The bowl played Friday, 23 December 2016, pitted the Troy (Ala.) University Trojans of the Sun Belt Conference against the Ohio University Bobcats of the Mid-America Conference.  Highlights of the show will include interviews with Troy head coach Neal Brown and Ohio head coach Frank Solich, along with interviews with athletic directors, players, and bowl officials.

Interviews from Troy include Jeremy McClain, athletic director, and quarterback Brandon Silvers from Gulf Shores, Ala.  Ohio interviews include Jim Schaus, athletic director, and Jordan Reid, a Montgomery, Ala., native who plays wide receiver for Ohio.  Viewers will also hear from Jerry Silverstein, bowl president.

Sports Talk features commentary on a wide range of current events in the sporting world, usually in a panel-discussion forum with Butler, dean of Academic Affairs at the Academy, serving as moderator.
