The United States Sports Academy hosted the 2009 Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) Study Tour, bringing eighteen administrators and coaches to observe sports programs and sport facilities in the United States.
The Academy has delivered sports programs in more than 60 countries around the world. The Academy has a long-standing relationship with the SAT, sending instructors to Thailand to teach certification courses in the Sports Management and Sports Coaching programs. The SAT is Thailand’s primary sports organization and plays a vital role in developing sport.
The SAT students visited a number of different venues and attractions across the country. In California, they toured athletic facilities at Stanford University and the University of San Francisco. In Chicago include they went on a tour of Soldier Field, Wrigley Field, the United Center, DePaul University and the University of Illinois-Chicago athletic facilities and visited with the 2016 Olympic Bid Advisory Council.
When the tour arrived in the Academy’s hometown of Daphne, students observed a physical education class at Daphne Middle School, attended a football game at nearby Spanish Fort High School and observed a youth recreational soccer program.
The final leg of the students’ trip took them to New York City and Lake Placid, N.Y., site of the 1980 Winter Olympic Games. In New York City, the group toured Ellis Island before heading to Lake Placid, where they visited the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) Training Center and various Olympic site venues.
