Due to the continued persistence of COVID-19 cases in the United States and around the world, the Board of Trustees of the United States Sports Academy has decided to postpone its annual Academy’s Awards of Sport (AAOS) program and Graduation Ceremony scheduled for November, 2020 until a date to be determined in 2021.
This is the first time in the AAOS program’s rich, 36-year history that the program will not be held in any given calendar year. A new date for the rescheduled program will be announced once burdensome travel restrictions have been eased for honorees and guests traveling from abroad and COVID-19 infection rates have been reduced to safe levels.
This year’s AAOS event was set to be a special one. The Academy planned to welcome a host of recent graduates for its 2020 Graduation Ceremony to the program. Honored guests were Eagle Award winner and World Baseball Softball Confederation President Riccardo Fraccari, Sport Artist of the Year (Painter) Brian Fox, Sport Artist of the Year (Sculptor) Sergey Eylanbekov, and Honorary Doctorate recipient and International ESports Federation President Vlad Marinescu.
The awards honor exemplary achievement in coaching, all-around athletic performance, courage, humanitarian activity, fitness and media, among others. The Academy’s American Sport Art Museum and Archives (ASAMA) annually recognizes these men and women through its Sport Artist of the Year, Honorary Doctorates, Distinguished Service Awards, Outstanding Athletes, and Alumni of the Year awards. This is the 36th year of the Academy’s Awards of Sport program.
