Textbook Independence Program

Through your end of course survey answers, we have learned that most of our students prefer having a physical textbook. You asked and we heard, so to meet that need, we are moving to something we call textbook independence.

Whenever possible, we are increasing the use of OER – open educational resources embedded in your courseware – for our general education courses at the bachelor’s level. These resources are a proven way to save you money while providing quality instructional materials in your general education courses. We are providing these resources at no cost to you.

Starting on 1 September 2022 at the beginning of the new academic year, we will transition to textbook independence by no longer providing textbooks to you, other than OER for courses.

This change will benefit you by allowing you to purchase, borrow, or rent copies of these books as you see fit from any book vendor.

This move will also provide your faculty the flexibility to make decisions about the most appropriate materials for the instructional experience in your courses.

To be informed about your textbook choices, please view the list of courses and their associated textbooks here. The most up-to-date textbook list will be maintained in the student portal.
