The Academy offers a one-of-a kind sports master’s degree program specifically designed to meet the needs of up and coming sports professionals in one of the fastest growing industries in the world. All courses are offered online so you can complete your studies at any time from any place. The Academy offers a 33 semester hour program leading to a Master of Sports Science (MSS) degree. You may also pursue a combination of any of the sports master’s degree areas leading to a dual major, for a total of 42 to 45 semester hours depending upon the area of study.

MSS Sports CoachingThe Academy master’s program in Sports Coaching is designed to prepare students for leadership in a coaching career at a variety of levels of competition. In the world of athletics, the difference between average and elite performance can hinge on the level of coaching an athlete receives. Premier coaches use cutting edge motivation and instructional techniques to maximize the performance of their athletes and their teams. In the Sports Coaching program, students will be given the education to meet the challenges coaches face on a day-to-day basis and to find practical solutions to everyday problems.

MSS Sports StudiesAcademy sports studies students create a curriculum specific to their interests in the sports world in both the sports management and sports coaching departments. In this area, students will work closely with an advisor to develop a personalized course of study based upon their individual needs.

MSS Sports Health & FitnessWithin the Department of Sports Exercise Science, a Sports Health & Fitness major can lead to many financially rewarding career opportunities in today’s society. Corporations, both public and private, and not-for-profit groups, are all promoting fitness and wellness programs. Qualified persons have opportunities in physical fitness, strength training, and cardiovascular fitness. The Sports Health & Fitness program requires 24 hours of course work (eight courses) and a mandatory nine semester-hour mentorship (450 clock hours).

MSS Recreation ManagementRecreation and leisure are an important part of a healthy lifestyle. With hectic lives and busy careers, people are looking to escape on extended vacations to exclusive resorts or just take a weekend hike in the woods. Participation in recreational activities on a daily basis has a positive impact on physical and mental health. A master’s degree with a major in Recreation Management gives a student the knowledge and core skills needed by a recreation management professional to plan, organize, and administer recreation, leisure, and tourism programs, services, and activities. This is an evolving field with tremendous growth potential. Students who get into the field now will be the recreation leaders of the 21st century.

A sport education all about you! The Academy’s Distance Learning Program offers you the flexibility to take courses and complete your master’s degree without leaving your home or job. Students have 24/7 access to courses and can easily interact with their professors and other students through this program.

Leaders in the sports world: Since the Academy’s founding in 1972, thousands of Academy graduates have gone on to success as coaches, managers, educators, athletic directors and administrators, entrepreneurs, healthcare providers, researchers and a myriad of other professionals at all level of sports, including professional, Olympic, collegiate, interscholastic, and recreational.

Mentorship: Away from the computer, into the field: The Academy mentorship experience gets students away from the books and computer and into the office, onto the field or court, analyzing video, crunching statistics, managing facilities, promoting events and any number of activities. The mentorship provides the student with actual, in-the-field training within the profession of sport. You’ll build your professional network while gaining real world experience.

Requirements:

Students applying for the Academy’s graduate degree programs must submit all previous official transcripts and have finished an undergraduate program with a minimum 2.5 GPA. Students must also prepare a written personal statement with an autobiography, career plans and expected goals for pursuing a master’s degree from the Academy and submit three recommendations.
