Thai Sports Administrator Dr. Gongsak Yodmani Earns Academy’s International Honorary Doctorate

Thai sports administrator and longtime political advisor Dr. Gongsak Yodmani has earned the United States Sports Academy’s 2022 International Honorary Doctorate Award. Yodmani is the current Governor of the Sport Authority of Thailand (SAT), with whom the Academy just completed its longstanding Sports Study Tour program. Each year as part of its Awards of Sport program, the Academy presents its International Honorary Doctorate to a person who has made outstanding contributions to sport and to society. Yodmani will visit the United States to accept his Honorary Doctorate on the Academy campus at the Awards of Sport event on Thursday, 10 November, 2022. Athletics Stars Mondo Duplantis and Sydney McLaughlin Named Academy July Athletes of the Month

Swedish pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis and American hurdler Sydney McLaughlin set world records in their events at the World Athletics Championships in July and were named the United States Sports Academy’s Athletes of the Month. Duplantis set a world record in the pole vault with a height of 6.21 meters in the event at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Ore., on 24 July 2022. It was the first world championship title for Duplantis, the reigning Olympic champion in pole vault. McLaughlin broke her own world record with a time of 50.68 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Ore., on 22 July 2022. USSA Promotes Pair of Faculty Members to New Dean Positions

In a move that will streamline delivery and management of the United States Sports Academy’s online sport education degree programs, the institution named a pair of longtime faculty members as deans of its new departments of undergraduate and graduate studies. Dr. Brandon Spradley was promoted to the role of Dean of Graduate Studies, while Dr. Vandy Pacetti-Donelson was promoted to the role of Dean of Undergraduate Studies, effective at the beginning of the 2022-2023 academic year on 1 September. Spradley previously served the Academy as its chair of sports management and associate professor. Academy Won’t Raise Tuition for Third Consecutive Academic Year

In a move recognizing the profound nature of the global economic disruption brought forth by the continued hardships related to the COVID-19 pandemic and economic downturns, the United States Sports Academy will not raise tuition for its undergraduate and graduate degree programs for the third consecutive academic year. The institution also is continuing to waive application fees at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degree levels. Academy’s Longtime Study Tour Program with Sports Authority of Thailand Resumes

The United States Sports Academy welcomed a group of students from the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) to the United States in July 2022 for the resumption of the Sports Study Tour portion of the International Certification in Sports Management (ICSM) and International Certification in Sports Coaching (ICSC) programs. Thai students visited the World Games 2022 in Birmingham, Ala., and sports sites like Mercedes Benz Stadium, took in an Atlanta United soccer match, visited Bobby Jones Golf Course, and other sites in Atlanta, Ga. They also took part in sport education seminars directed by Academy faculty. Sports education cooperation between the Academy and Thailand goes back to the 1980s and the Academy and the SAT have a Memorandum of Understanding to work together in sports education and training. Tennis Star Rafael Nadal, Softball MVP Jocelyn Alo Named USSA June Athletes of the Month

Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal and University of Oklahoma softball slugger Joceyn Alo impressed on the biggest stages in their sports in June and were named the United States Sports Academy’s Athletes of the Month. Nadal won his 14th Roland Garros title and 22nd Grand Slam trophy after defeating Norway’s Casper Ruud 6-3, 6-3, 6-0 in the championship round in Paris on 5 June 2022. He has now won two more Grand Slams than rival greats Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. Alumnus Mark Chay Adds Role as President of Singapore Swimming Association to Resume

A former Olympic and NCAA collegiate swimmer, Mark Chay has a very diverse resume in the world of international sport. The United States Sports Academy alumnus, Singapore Nominated Parliament Member, athlete, sports business owner, administrator, coach, and national committee chair recently added another prestigious title to his resume: president of the Singapore Swimming Association. Chay was elected unopposed to the position in June. He now leads a 10-person executive committee that oversees aquatic sports in the island nation in Southeast Asia. In addition to this new role, Chay also speaks on sports issues as a Nominated Member of Parliament in the country. A pair of exciting young artists will be featured at the United States Sports Academy’s annual Awards of Sport program on campus on Thursday, November 10, 2022. Academy President Discusses Sport Education Programs in Thailand, Philippines as Sports Study Tour Resumes this Summer

James Peterson Named Academy’s 2022 Sport Artist of the Year, Painter

Because of his colorful, contemporary style and dedication to personalizing paintings for athletes and inspirational entertainers, artist James Peterson has been named the United States Sports Academy’s Sport Artist of the Year in the Painter category. Peterson will be introduced to the public at the institution’s Awards of Sport program on its Daphne, Ala., campus on Thursday, November 10, 2022. Peterson is a contemporary portrait artist originally from Milwaukee, Wisc. His original 60×48 portrait of NBA Hall of Fame player Alex English is autographed by both the athlete and the artist. Peterson paints larger-than-life portraits of inspirational athletes and entertainers.
