The United States Sports Academy is pleased to announce the launch of Track & Field for the 2024-25 season with the hiring of head coach Andy Canegitta. Canegitta comes to the Eagles with an impressive collegiate Cross Country and Track & Field coaching resume. 

Since 2014, Canegitta has served as the Head Cross Country and Track Coach at the University of Mobile, where he built the Rams to be a top NAIA program. Andy won two NAIA National Championships, two Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Championships, and was SSAC Conference Runner-ups seven times. Canegitta is a three-time SSAC Coach of the Year, earning the title in 2017, 2021, and 2022. 

At Mobile, Canegitta instructed 21 All-Americans, 7 All-Freshman, 152 National Qualifiers, 340 SSAC All-Conference runners, 60 SSAC Outdoor Champions, and four Athlete of the Year. 

“We are thrilled to name Andy Canegitta as our inaugural Head Track & Field Coach,” said Assistant Director of Athletics Taylor Rogers. “We are confident in Andy’s ability to build and lead our program at USSA as he has experience developing programs from scratch. He has also proven his relentless ability to recruit high quality student-athletes.” 

Prior to his time at Mobile, Andy was the Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach at Loyola University – New Orleans from 2009 to 2014. While there, Canegitta coached 12 National Qualifiers and 26 All-Conference selections, and his team set 22 program records in a single outdoor season (2013). 

Andy was also the Assistant Cross Country and Track Coach at Warner Southern College. During his time there, the team won the NAIA Region 14 and Florida Sun Conference Championship and were ranked as high as 20th in the NAIA National Poll. 

“It is an honor to be part of history in being named the Head Track & Field Coach at the United States Sports Academy,” said Andy Canegitta. “I’m excited to build this program, recruit quality student-athletes, and make an impact in their lives academically and athletically.” 

Canegitta began his coaching career as an Assistant at his alma mater Webber International University. It was at Webber International that Canegitta assisted the development of the Track & Field program by recruiting nearly 40 new athletes in the inaugural season.  

Andy was a four-year lettered athlete in Cross Country at Webber International University and was a part of the three-time Florida Sun Conference Championship teams. Canegitta earned a bachelor’s degree in Sport Managment and Master of Business Administration in Sport Management from Webber Interational University. Andy is a local resident of Daphne, Alabama, where he resides with his wife Kerrian and two children, Andy Jr. And Naomi.
