The United States Sports Academy’s latest Student of the Month, Fachaitte Kinslow was recently hired as the assistant director of athletics for compliance at Langston (Okla.) University. Kinslow hopes her Academy doctoral education will propel her to a role as a Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) in the collegiate ranks and inspire other women to pursue careers in the sport profession.

Kinslow joined Langston University after serving as a counselor for the Oklahoma City Public Schools system for over three years. She has over 15 years of professional experience as a counselor at the high school and collegiate levels in addition to having counseling experience with mental health and substance abuse.

“I absolutely love the professors and the staff at the Academy,” Kinslow said. “Everyone I have dealt with has been personable and helpful. I have been through a lot personally over the last few years and everyone at the Academy has been patient, compassionate, and helpful. I can’t say enough about the faculty and staff there.”

Kinslow holds a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts and a master’s degree in general education and school counseling from the University of Central Oklahoma. She also interned in sports marketing at the University of Oklahoma, where a professor encouraged her to look at the Academy.

“Getting here hasn’t been easy, but I want to encourage other women in sports to keep working hard to reach your goals,” Kinslow said. “I want to let other women know that there is a place for them in sports. Nothing is impossible.”

At Langston, Kinslow is in charge of compliance and student-athlete eligibility issues. Those roles have been especially important during the COVID-19 pandemic, as she has been the athletic department’s point person for student-athlete virus testing and tracking.

She’s also happy to work at a university she considers a second home.

“Both of my parents are Langston alums,” Kinslow said. “Although I did not attend Langston as a student, I spent a lot of time growing up here, so it feels like home.  I’m excited to have this opportunity to be a part of the Langston family in such an important role.”
